Be the example

When it comes to creating a healthy family culture it’s important to be the example. Some people look at exercise as a selfish pursuit that takes them away from their family and other responsibilities. The first counter to that is the healthier we are the better we can show up for our family, work, and virtually everything we do. Better energy, more confidence, and just the best we can be for all that we do. The other thing to consider is how exercise and health influences those close to us. I’ve seen it time and time again, one person in a family starts their fitness journey and before long the spouse, then the kids join in. I have five kids myself and I don’t put any pressure on them or lecture them on the importance of exercise and health, but they see me going every day and eating healthy and they see the benefits so they’re naturally into it.. Kids are going to be interested in the things their parents are into, musicians, writers, surfers, swimmers, rock climbers, etc.  It’s not 100% but there’s a higher likelihood the things we as parents are into our kids are going to gravitate towards as well. So when it comes to health, think of the example we are setting for our families, if we want our kids to have a good foundation of health to build off of when their adults, we should start showing them how it’s done as an adult, what it looks like, not just for a few years in high school while they play sports (which is what most people do). Standard American health culture is not good right now. It's not a stretch to say that we are more unhealthy than anytime in history, I think it’s good to set an example for how to counter this in our own families and set our kids up to be healthy, strong adults.
