As we know with any fitness routine, being consistent is key. So the best way to be consistent is to choose a workout program that you enjoy. There are many ways to get great results from exercise, it’s not one size fits all. Just because a workout program works for someone else doesn’t mean it’s the end all be all. However there is a catch, we still want to make sure we are balanced in our workouts. For example let’s say you love to run, well if that is all you are doing you’re going to be lacking in strength which is important. I look at a balance workout routine to cover three main components, Strength, Power, and Endurance. Some of these will overlap in a good workout program which is helpful. The goal then is to choose exercises that fall in these 3 categories on a regular basis. Let’s use the running example, so you love to run - great. Let’s do that the most. So we can do 3 or 4 days a week of running then 2 or 3 days of strength and power, working in functional exercises into the movements. Still stick to exercises you enjoy (or at least don’t hate), and make sure these three are covered on a weekly rhythm and you’ll be covered, ensuring your body is getting everything it needs to function at a high level for a long time.
